VISIT BY U.S. CHAMPIONS

Negotiations Proceeding An invitation for the American women's freestyle champion and tower diving champion to visit New Zealand in the coming swimming season had been made by the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association on behalf of the Newmarket club. Auckland, the national president (Mr A. J. Donaldson) told a meeting of the association's council last night The association had subsequently given permission for the club to deal direct with the American Athletic Union on the subject. Mr Donaldson made these remarks after correspondence on the proposed visit from the American union and the Auckland centre had been read. The union’s letter said the invitation would be placed before its swimming body in December but the Auckland centre said it would be desirable for the Newmarket club to ascertain before then if the two champions were available.

Mr Donaldson expressed satisfaction at the way arrangements for the proposed visit were being handled. It was pleasing to see the Newmarket club filling a gap in the association's programme, added Mr G. S. Brockett.
