Swimming COACHING FORUM IN SYDNEY

New Zealand May Be Represented

A strong possibility exists that New Zealand will be represented at a large national coaching forum in Sydney from October 27 to October 29. The council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last night affirmed that it favoured sending the chairman of the council’s coaching committee (Mr C. A. Harrow) and passed the matter to its executive for investigation. The council sent circulars to centres on the subject of the forum and received letters from two coaches, Messrs J. McCall (Waikato) and J. Greenwood (Auckland), who indicated that they were interested in attending. The executive was asked to explore this possibility as well. Two suggestions for uses for the bequest of £lOO from the estate of Dr. T. H. Pettit were received from the Auckland centre. One was that the money be used to provide badges for New Zealand swimmers gaining Olympic representation; the other was that a chair of office and regalia for the president of the national body be purchased.

Both proposals, said the letter, would fittingly perpetuate the memory of Dr. Pettit, who was national president in 1942-43. The council resolved to place the matter on the agenda for the annual meeting next month. Mr G. S. Brockett raised the question of a rain insurance fund for swimming carnivals, run on a national basis. Such a fund was run by the Queensland association, he said. It was decided to obtain the reactions of centres to the suggestion.
