DRILLING AT KAPUNI

Change Of Plans (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Sept. 19. The twenty-sixth progress report on drilling operations by Shell, BP, Todd Oil Services, Ltd., in Taranaki says the company has experienced much difficulty in preparing the Kapuni C site and it is now apparent that much more time will be needed to complete the job Therefore, it has been decided to carry out the original plan and to erect the derrick on the alreadyprepared Kapuni B site. To wait for -the completion of the Kapuni C site would entail much idle time for the rig and such a delay is unacceptable. The difficulties at Kapuni C are caused by an unstable sub-surface layer of plastic clay, which is unable to bear the heavy load to be imposed on it without being strengthened and consolidated by extensive piling, says the report.
