CIVIL DEFENCE

Compulsory Course Suggested (NZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 19. The Auckland Territorial Association believes some scheme should be introduced whereby men not selected by ballot for Army service should be obliged to perform some other useful service to the community, such as civil defence. The chairman (LieutenantColonel K. L. Brown) said today it was hoped the Government would eventually introduce a scheme so that all national service would be on a equable basis. The Mayor of Auckland (Mr D. M. Robinson) said today young men not called up for military training should take a compulsory course in civil defence training.
