Commissioner Urges More

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept 19. With better shipping facilities, an increased export trade to the Pacific Islands is hoped for by Mr K W Davies, the Trade Commissioner for the Pacific, who left Auckland on a tour of duty today. Mr Davies will visit Tahiti, New Caledonia and the New Hebrides and expects to return on October 15. Shipping services to New Caledonia and the New Hebrides would start to November, said Mr Davies, and he hoped for a, substantial Increase in the export of foodstuffs and manufactured goods. A substantial amount to goods had been sent to New Caledonia by air. and Mr Davies said he was anxious to discover the result of this trade and to study the market for future expansion. Mr Davies urged manufacturers to get tehtod the Government to actively increasing exports to the islands. He stressed the necessity for personal contact to be maintained with the island importers.
