STORMWATER FLOODING

“Trouble Spots” In City

“Severe flooding trouble spots” were listed by the City Council in a letter to the Christchurch Drainage Board last evening. They were noted during the recent persistent rain, and il appeared that some stormwater extensions or alterations were desirable, the council said. A few of those noted were Barrington street between Rahera and Stourbridge streets; Colombo street. Sydenham, particularly near Battersea street; St. Asaph street. Barbadoes street, Fitzgerald avenue, where the south channel particularly was overtaxed; St. Asaph street, Montreal street to Antigua street; Cashmere road (Kaiwara street to the city boundary); Hawke street, New Brighton; Shaw avenue and Bowhill road. The information had been recorded for future use, the works committee said. However, the list showed the increasing stormwater problems which were arising in the older parts of the city.
