COLLISION ON BRIDGE

Driver Killed

IN 2.. Preu Association) AUCKLAND, May 28. A fatal accident blocked the Waihou river bridge about two miles north of Paeroa for 45 minutes this morning.

Two cars collided on the long one-way bridge at 8 o’clock. One man was thrown violently against the steering column of his car and suffered chest Injuries from which he died some hours later in the Thames Hospital. He was Reginald James Wilson, aged 66, a retired farmer, of Puke road, Paeroa.

The driver of the other car. Mr Alan Kenneth Whitehead, aged 46, a factory worker of Awaiti road, Netherton, has face and leg injuries. His condition was reported by the Thames Hospital later today as satisfactory. Among travellers held up when the bridge was blocked were 80 entrants in the 450mile North Island championship reliability trial.
