WILDERNESS AREAS

Two Big Districts Recommended

Two large districts have beert recommended to the National Parks Authority by the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand as being suitable for setting aside as mountaineers’ wilderness areas, says the annual report of the president of the federation (Mr R. A. Rodda). After full consideration of the views by several clubs it was decided to suggest the Olivine range, which runs from the north-east to the south-west below Jackson’s Bay: and either the Landsborough or a large area of Central Westland, says the report. In the case of both the Landsborough and the Central Westland area the country involved is mostly Crown land, but there are also some small sections of State forest.
