Good Run At Wingatui

“The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN, May 18. Promise and Cashmere, rival candidates for the Waiau Handicap at Invercargill, completed their preparation in dashing style at Wingatui this morning. Napra, one of the early favourites for the Clifden Handicap, sprinted well over half a mile. The trestles were 20 feet out on the course proper, which was in splendid order and conditions were ideal. Ridden by their race jockeys, Promise (B. J. Anderton) appeared to be travelling better than Cashmere 'H. T. Anderton) at the end of six furlongs in Imin 19sec, after running the first three furlongs in 39 3-ssec. Kumai (B. J. Anderton) and Linton (H. T. Anderton) worked well for hacks over the same ground in Imin 20sec. the first three furlongs in 39sec. Kumai. which was third in the hack sprint on the first daj’. will be tried over a mile in the Tuatapere Handicap. Linton was fourh at his last start at Beaumont. A wide barrier draw in a capacity field has added to his handicap in the Te Tua Handicap. Lord Fane (R. J. Skelton) was accompanied by Begorrah in Imin ?lsec, the last three furlongs in 42sec. Lord Fane was a surprise winner of the high-weight event at Beaumont at his last start. He is a light-weight candidate for the Waiau Handicap, an event which he won last year. Panel <J. D. Pankhurst). runner-up to Solus in the feature event at Invercargill last week, was not out for time when she finished on terms with Mighty Son (G. Olive) in Imin 23sec, the first three furlongs in 41 sec. Napra (R. J. Skelton) looked as though he could have improved on his 53sec for half a mile, the last three in 40sec. Corvale (R. N. Marsh) and Bador (E. J. Didham) ran the opening furlong in 13sec and completed five furlongs in Imin 7sec. Captain Morgan went a strong round of pace work with Tarmine. Milord (B. J. Anderton) and Grand Monarch (S. Diack) completed a round of pace work by coming home the last three furlongs in 41 sec.
