Trade Commissioner Bidden Farewell
New Zealand’s close trade associations with Australia should be fostered. and a common fortitude to "get out and sell” was required, said the retiring Australian Trade Commissioner in the South Island (Mr D. M. Walker' yesterday. Mr Walker was the guest at an informal farewell function tendered by the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. His associations with the chamber had always been happy ones, and he was particularly grateful for the help he had received from the secretary (Miss I. V. Shrimpton). Mr Walker said. However, his contacts had been much of a one-way street, and he felt he had received more from the chamber than its members had from him. "Our two countries have got to get closer for our common good, and I advise you to use the trade commissioners more,” he said.
After expressing the chamber's appreciation of Mr Walker’s services, the president (Mr R. H. Clark) also welcomed the new trade commissioner, Mr S. D. Schubart
