Swimming BREASTSTROKE RECORD

Russian's 100 Metre Swim (N.Z P-A.-Ktuttr—Copyright) MOSCOW. May 7. Leonid Kolesnikov, a Red Army swimmer, today broke the world men’s 100 metres breaststroke record for the second time in three days. He was swimming in the Soviet Union trials for the match against Britain in Moscow on May 20 and 21. He clocked Jmin 11.4 sec. equalling his time on Friday. This is one-tenth of a second better than the world record held by another Soviet swimmer. V. Minaskin. which has stood for nearly four years. In the 200 metres breaststroke, a Tbilisi student Yuri Funikov claimed the best time in Europe this year with 2min 39.45ec. A 12-year-old Moscow schoolgirl, Natasha Mikhailova. clocked 2min 34.8 sec in the 200 metres freestyle.
