NARROW FOREST ROADS
Vehicle Fire Dangers
Motorists should exercise extreme care when travelling along narrow forest roads which were often bordered by manuka or fern, said Mr A. M. McCleary in the latest issue of the National Parks’ newsletter. “Many outbreaks of fire on motor-vehicles have resulted from violent impact which may dislodge engine or battery attachments, damp electric cables and cause short circuits or spillage of fuel,” said Mr McCleary. Mr McCleary said that fire could break out at any time from such causes as faulty electrical equipment, and flames from split, loose or burnt-out exhaust pipes or detached air cleaners which might result in short-circuit-ing. Therefore, drivers should be very careful when travelling along forest roads.
