Boxing COTTON BEATS HALAFIHI

Unanimous Points Verdict <N.Z Prexs Association) AUCKLAND, February 9. Eddie Cotton (United States) beat Johnny Halaflhi (Tonga) on points in a 12-round bout at Carlaw Park tonight. The verdict for Cotton was unanimous. The wonder was that Halaflhi, after taking so much punishment, was able to stay on his feet. The bout nearly ended in a knock-out in the tenth round when Cotton followed up a tremendous right rip to the stomach with a powerful left to the head and other punched with both hands to the jaw. Halaflhi went down for a count of eight, and when he rose he managed to survive until the end of the round. Both men weighed 12st 41b.
