SCOUTS’ RAFT RACE
Cooking During . Event
Sixteen scout crews of the Rapanui district will take part in a Kon-Tiki style race on the Estuary tomorrow. The course will be of one mile, from Redcliffs to Morten's jetty. Mount Pleasant.
The scouts will sail rafts of their own make according to specified scout construction, no nails, screws or nuts and bolts being allowed. The rafts may be rowed, paddled, or sailed, but pushing is not allowed. A seven-foot mast will carry troop colours on each raft. A condition of the competition is that all entrants must be able to swim 25 yards. The rafts will carry cooking equipment and the senior scouts who have entered four teams will be required to cook a meal of four sausages and four eggs while the raft is moving. The other teams may do their cooking at the end of the race. The cooking will be carried out by two cook scouts who are not crew members.
The launching of the rafts by senior scouts will take place at 10 a.m. and by scouts a quarter ot an hour later.
