FIFTH HEAT

Of £1000; one mile and a quarter.

0010 ARANIA (2) It (G. B. Noble). Dismal failure on Wednesday after pulling hard out in the open. Is capable of much better and should be a much better prospect tomorrow.

0201 DIAMOND HANOVER (5) It (D. J. Townley). Made most of pace and gained a decisive win in his heat on Wednesday. Is favourably drawn to repeat that effort and looks the hardest to beat.

0342 GUISEPPE (4) It (F. Smith). Finished solidly from the two furlongs for second to Robert Dillon on Wednesday. Should be an even better hors? in this heat and will be hard to keep out of the money.

—0 KIWI DILLON (W.A.) (8) It (R. W. Johnson). Finished a distant tenth in the slowest-run heat on Wednesday after appearing to pace roughly early. Lacks the condition required to master a distance, but could be a better horse tomorrow.

0 MAESTRO’S MELODY (Via) (7) It (F. A. Shinn). Had little in his favour in the running on the first day and tangled for no reason near the home turn. Is better than that effort suggested and with better luck could be prominent.

0200 REASON WHY (3) It (W. J. Doyle). Handy early only on Wednesday, but was checked near the two furlongs. Finished eleventh and could do a little better in this field.

0 THREE ACES (S.A.) (6) It (R. Robinson). Broke at the start on the first day and rushed from last to first inside the last half-mile. Was staggering at the furlong and finished well back. Had worked well prior to the meeting and with a better start could race prominently.

0000 WAITAKI CHILD (1) It (W. R. Butt). Made ground for fifth in Diamond Hanover’s heat on the first day. Will have to show more dash to have much chance over 10 furlongs.

0420 YOUNG DIEMAN <9) (It) (C. C. Devine). Made ground for sixth on Wednesday after a slow beginning. Does not appeal over a sprint distance.

0000 AUDITOR (1) 12 (F. E. Newfield). One of the slowest beginners in his heat Showed speed to finish sixth. Is capable of a bold showing but after Wednesday’s race will have to be taken in trust.

4100 INVICTA (4) 12 (S. D. Edge). Was withdrawn on Wednesday because of soreness. Although it cannot be confirmed, it is understood it is unlikely he will be produced at the meeting.

0004 LADY BELMER (3) 12 (R. Young). Finished in grand style for fourth over 13 furlongs on the first day. She lost ground at the start and was disappointed at least twice when going for an opening inside the last half-mile. She looks a fit mare and although not racing over her favourite distance, she will at least be a placfe prospect Scratched: Sun Chief.
