FOURTH HEAT

Of £10M; One mile and a quarter. 0000 BLUE EMPEROR (5) It (R. P. Nyhan). Led early, then trailed. Was beaten before the straight entrance in his heat and finished at the rear; hardly an encouraging trial for this race.

—0 FURTIVE (Vic.) (8) It (F. A Shinn). Set a torrid pace, until he began to choke near the five furlongs in his heat If he goes as freely and there is no mishap, he will ensure that there is no loitering and he could master the 10 furlongs fairly comfortably. 1410 HOLE SMOKE (0) It (F. EL Newfield). Far from disgraced when seventh in his heat on Wednesday. Has sufficient ability to take a prominent part in the finish and could upset calculations.

2303 MASSACRE (6) It (D C. Watts). Finished well from towards the tail of the field early to take third place behind Teryman and Smokeaway, a fine effort for a horse in his class. Does not always begin well and this could be against him here.

1300 RUSTIC LAD (7) It (J. L Ferguson). Has shown fine sprint form in the past and until he received a stone bruise recently he had been working in dashing style. 0000 SHOWDOWN (3) It (D. J. Townley). Has shown sound sprint form in the past. Paced a fair race only on Wednesday when he was beaten off in sixth place. Could do better in this field.

0400 TAKTTIMU (2) It (F. G. Holmes). Had every chance until the last two furlongs where her condition gave out. She stopped very badly and was a distant twelfth. Marked improvement will be necessary for her to prove a threat.

3001 TERYMAN (1) It (C. C. Devine). Fine win on Wednesday and from his favourable barrier position he could easily lead from end to end. Has shown sound sprint form in the past and will be one of the favourites. 3 FIRST KISS (N.S.W.) (1) 12 (G. J. Turnbull). Is noted more for his deeds as a sprinter than as a stayer Should show sharp improvement as a result of his race on the first day of the meeting where his condition gave out half a furlong from the finish and he was beaten by Robert Dillon and Guiseppe. 0033 SCOTTISH COMMAND (2) 12 (C. S. Hunter). Had every chance and finished a good third to Diamond Hanover and False Step. He could be a better horse tomorrow. 0020 SEAFIELD LAD (3) 12 (W. R. Butt). Met trouble after a slow beginning in his heat on the first day. Is a capable sprinter and might be a place prospect. 1004 GENTRY (1) 24 (F.'Smith). Pleasing run for fourth on Wednesday and should be a better horse tomorrow. Is■ one of the best sprinters in commission when right and chances highly rated. 2030 LOOKAWAY (1) 30 (C. H. G. Irvine). Not starting. Scratched: Sultana.
