Monowai Wins Again (From Our Own Reporter) . AUCKLAND. January 2. In the play-off for the Dustin Cup in Auckland yesterday, Monowai reversed its previous score with the Samoan Society to win, 7-1. Monowai has created a New Zealand record by winning the cup three years in, succession. The team played well throughout the tournament and was in brilliant form for its last three games. A walk allowed Samoan Society’s only run td first in the first innings. When Monowai replied, B. Makinson gained first on an error, second on a field's choice, third on a hit by N. Beale and home on an error. With Samoan Society three up. three down in the next, Monowai had one away, when E. Law hit a three-base hit and scored on a hit by L. Leask. Samoan Society, scoreless with one on. held Monowai scoreless, but was three up three down in the next and Monowai, batting strongly, upset the Samoan Society fielders to score two runs.

Errors allowed S. Wells of Samoan Society, to second and she scored on a hit by R. Beasley. Monowai replied with hits by B. Hobbs and E. Law and errors brought in three runs.

Both teams were scoreless In the sixth and Samoan Society, in its last, was held scoreless for Monowai to win without batting its last. B. Makinson struck out four batters and gave up one walk. L. Leask and D. Law batted well for two hits out of three times at bat.

Interprovincial Tourney In the first day’s play in the interprovincial tournament for the Bensel Trophy the general standard was not particularly high. Canterbury had a bye in the morning and in the afternoon’s game had little difficulty in beating Hutt Valley, 19-5. Hutt Valley, three up, three down in the first allowed Canterbury to score six runs. H. Johnson and B. Makinson batted well. Hutt Valley opened its account on a fielder’s choice in the second and Canterbury scored again. Another run came in on a fielder’s choice in the next for Hutt Valley and Canterbury was three up. three down. Canterbury was forced into errors in the fourth by an alert Hutt Valley team which scored two runs. H. Johnson, with a fine home run. brought in three "runs in reply. Cheles scored Hutt Valley’s only run in the last on an error, allowing Canterbury to win without batting its last, 19-5. Results:—

Wellington 12, Otago 5; Auckland 14, West Coast 2; Waikato 8, Hutt Valley 1; Wellington 46, West Coast 8; Auckland 8, Waikato 1; Canterbury 19, Hutt Valley 5.
