CUSTOMS RAID TOFUA

Contraband Worth £lOOO Seized

The biggest haul of goods smuggled from Pacific Islands ports into New Zealand has been made in the 5300-ton Tofua. Customs officers seized transistor radios, cigarettes, and whisky worth more than £lOOO. Most of the contraband was found in the well of the “dumb waiter”—a lift carrying food to the engineroom. The Tofua arrived from the Islands yesterday morning, and the Customs search began in the afternoon.
