TRIBUTE TO MISS V. F. TOWNSEND
Service To Avonside Girls’ High School A tribute to the “thoughtful, energetic, and persistent way” in which the retiring headmistress of the Avonside Girls’ High School (Miss V. F. Townsend) had carried on the traditions of the school during the last 13 years was paid last evening by the regional superintendent for the South Island of the Department of Education (Mr T. M. Archer). Speaking at the school’s annual prize-giving ceremony in the Civic Theatre Mr Archer praised Miss Townsend for the interest she had taken in developing the abilities of all types of pupils in the school. She had given magnificent service to the school, he said.
