SHIPPING SERVICE TO RESUME

Matson Lines N.Z. Trade The Matson Line has announced the reintroduction of a shipping service between the Pacific coast ports of North America and New Zealand. Serious turn-round delays in 1954 forced the Matson Line to withdraw its ships from regular callings at Wellington and Auckland. Experimental calls made by four C2-class freighters, the Alameda, Ventura, Sierra and Sonoma, have proved that the situation over the last six years has improved and with the increasing demand for space, these ships will supplement the existing service provided by the passenger liners Monterey and Mariposa, which make 32 calls at Auckland each year.

It is planned to introduce several newer and faster vessels for the trade to replace the older ships.
