GIPSY QUEEN’S CARAVAN BURNT.—Eliza Woods, for 40 years “ruler” of Britain’s 40,000 gipsies, died recently. Nobody knew her age, but she was generally thought to be about 90 years old. This photograph shows the ceremonial burning of her caravan. Under Romany law, after the funeral of a gipsy queen, her caravan is burnt and her pony shot.
