“I agree with my colleagues who have been saying that so precious a thing as education should not be forced on persons who are old enough not to need or want it,” said the principal of the Christchurch Technical College (Mr D. W. Lyall) at the school’s annual prize-giving ceremony yesterday afternoon. ‘‘But this is only a minority we are speaking of when we criticise, in adverse terms, {heir unwillingness to make use of the education we offer,” he said. “Wk e admitting that a small number of these students do exist, I would like to draw attention to the bulk of our young people who are ordinary, normal folk who, with encouragement, will always want to do a decent day’s work.” Prizes were presented as follows: GIRLS Senior: University Entrance (also Whitcombe and Tombs’ prize for Head Girl librarian), Carolyn J.
