COUNTRY GIRLS’ CLUBS

Results Of Debating Competition

The Christchurch district committee of Country Girls’ Clubs recently held its final debate for 1960 at the Ellesmere Community Centre. Subject of the debate was: “That the hire purchase system is beneficial to the New Zealand economy.” The Ellesmere Club’s team took the affirmative and the Darfield Club the negative. The judge (Mr McLaughlin) said the debate was of very high standard and that the Darfield team (the winner) hammered its facts home a little more strongly than the other team. Points were 329 to 316. Trophies were awarded by Miss J. Stalker to the following:—Debating Shield, Miss E. Hart; Bruce Murdock Cup for best speaker. Miss J. Goldstone.
