Rice Or Bird Seed?

Sir, —May I commend the sextons of Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, for their suggestions that guests at weddings throw bird seed instead of confetti in the church grounds If Ireland suggests this practice let New Zealand lead the way. Why not dye bird seed with vegetable dyes for pretty colour,

and no danger to the birds? We eat cakes iced in colours. When I was a girl 50 summers ago, people used to throw rice at a wedding. Bird seed would only be another form of grain-throw-ing and how much more commendable!—Yours, etc., LET’S SHARE THE PARTY. November 18, 1960.
