UNSAVOURY FILMS

Churches Support

Cr. H. P. Smith

Appreciation of the stand taken by Cr. H. P. Smith and the Christchurch City Council on unsuitable and unsavoury films in theatres, was expressed at a recent meeting of the Christchurch branch of the National Council of Churches.

The secretary (Mrs W. Mackay) said the branch had been concerned for some time about the matter and had written to all its constituent church courts drawing attention to complaints received and asking for the matter to be referred to the appropriate committees for investigation. This was already being done, said Mrs Mackay. Commending Cr. Smith for his outspoken comments, the branch said it wished to assure the City Council of its support in any effort to raise the standard of films shown and expressed willingness to co-operate wherever possible, said Mrs Mackay.
