FRUSTRATION ALLEGED
There is no doubt that a deep dismay is spreading over a large section of our people due to harassing frustrations and barriers which seem to beat back at evety turn men who are endeavouring to do their best. Many people accept this situation meekly and say that nothing can be done about it Just how far this mental apathy and lack of incentive has penetrated our electors is reflected in the complete indifference to political issues shown by the public during this election campaign. The Social Credit Political League is the only organised body of those in New Zealand who are rebelling against this state of affairs. In its ranks are those who have a vision of something far better than the regimental mediocrity of the Socialist State into which New Zealand is swiftly and surely sliding. Social Credit is pledged to reduce taxation, lower the cost of living, and restore incentive to those who are prepared to do something for their own benefit and for New Zealand as a whole. Social Credit is pledged to preserve the freedom of the individual, to combat bureaucratic controls, and to subject all decisions of authoritative bodies to the right of appeal in Courts of law. To the electors of Westland I would say: “Our province has vast mineral resources, our timber forests are still immense, and our potential in primary production has been hardly touched Why then are we slipping into such a depressed state? Coal and timber production Is falling, land development, apart from Crown efforts, is practically non-existent, our secondary roads are disgusting, our local bodies heavily saddled with debt, and our population dwindling. If these trends continue. I venture to say that those of us who have sunk our roots in the province of Westland shall shortly find ourselves living in an economic wilderness. "The National-Labour twins have, during the last 25 years of their administration, been completely indifferent to our problems. Can we afford another three years of such treatment?” For the Coast It is my sincere belief that the only solution to our problems lies in the election of a Social Credit Government. My reasons for this belief are as follows Included in the Social Credit policy is: the establishment of a coal by-products industry: the provision of finance for extensive land development, both private and State; a realistic approach to the problems of the milling industry, including sufficient cutting rights for existing mills: the establishment of timber-treating and plywood factories in Westland, not under the control of outside monopolies; the development of Greymouth harbour to acommodate ships up to 5000 tons; inter-est-free loans to local bodies; the establishment of a Westland development council to formulate a local policy for the guidance of the Parliamentary member. These are the answers to some of our problems, but the neglect of 25 years will not be overcome m one term of office. If you sincerely desire progress and development in this beautiful province. vote Social Credit. If you are happy with the way things are vote National or Labour—it doesn't matter which, as there is no difference between them.
