Golf COMMONWEALTH TOURNAMENT

Possibility Of N.Z. As Venue (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 14. - If Australia is unable to hold the fixture the next Commonwealth golf tournament may be held, in New Zealand, Mr D. O. Whyte told the New Zealand Golf Council today. The date of the Commonwealth tournament which has been offered to Australia had been fixed for the first fortnight in November, 1963. If South Africa left the Commonwealth it would still play in this tournament and the name of the tourney would be changed, Mr Whyte said. Die council agreed unanimously to send a New Zealand team to Australia next year. . The Freyberg Rose Bowl tournament next year will be held at Nateer from May 18 to 20. The New Zealand championships next year will be held at New Plymouth from October 11 to 18. Applications are to be invited from North Auckland, Auckland, Waikato and Bay of Plenty fBr the New Zeeland championships in 1962. These are not to be held during October because of the absence from New Zealand then of the country’s four best amateurs at tile Eisenhower trophy tournament in Japan.
