The Pirates defeated the New York Yankees, 10-9, in the seventh and final game to take the series, 4-3. Die game was thrilling, with the lead changing from innings to innings, and coming down to a 9-9 draw at the end of the ninth. Then Bill Mazeroski came out for the Pirates and won the game and the series with a homer off the first iSitch. It was the first world series championship for Pittsburgh in 35 years.
