FREEZING WORKS CLAIM

Otago Meat Study Next Month "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, October 14. The survey by the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board of Central Otago will begin early next week. It is being carried out to assess the soundness of farmers’ claims for a new freezing works. The board’s chief economic executive officer (Mr R. H. Bevin) and Mr A. L. Warner, who will be in charge of the survey, are now in Alexandra to meet the directors of the Central Otago Freezing Company and representatives of Otago Federated Farmers. About 750 farmers in the Lake, Vincent, and Maniototo counties and possibly Strath Taieri will be approached. A questionnaire will be sent to 500 of these, and visits will be made by Mr Warner and his team to others. The questionnaire will deal with the present stock situation on individual farms and the farmer’s own estimate of his potential in five and 10 years. The economic service team will meet farmers, discuss development and problems of lamb disposal, and generally review problems. It is expected the survey will be completed by Christmas and the assessed results, placed before the board early next year.
