CABINET SEAT FOR NEGRO
Pledge Given By Lodge (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK. October 13. The Republican candidate for the United States Vice-Presidency (Mr Henry Cabot Lodge) told an election meeting in Harlem, the negro quarter of New York, last night thait if the Republicans won the Presidential election they would have a negro in the United States Cabinet. “This is a pledge,” he said. The Vice-Presidential candidate ilso promised that there would de greater use of negroes in the , service from the ranks of / .Ambassador downwards, and the White House would use its good •offices and the full powers of the federal Government to end seg- «- negation in public schools and in eating places and other public facilities.
