N.Z. Recognition Of Status (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 2. The House of Representatives today passed the Republic of Ghana Bill, under which New Zealand legally recognises Ghana’s new republican status. Moving the bill’s second reading, the Prime Minister (Mr Nash) said he had been deeply impressed at the ' Commonwealth Prime Ministers’ conference by Dr. Nkrumah’s dignity and restraint in his approach to African problems. “I was no less impressed by his attachment to the Commonwealth and by the great value he placed on Ghana’s membership of the Commonwealth,” Mr Nash said. Welcoming Ghana's decision to stay in the Commonwealth, the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holyoake) said Ghana seemed to be setting a worth while example to other African countries in its development
