GRAND JURY’S OPINION

Recommendation To Minister (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 2. The grand, jury was concerned at the growth of vandalism, hooliganism, and violence in the towns and its threat to the freedom of the law-abiding citizen, said the foreman of the grand jury sworn in today at the Wellington Supreme Court. It felt property belonging to the State, local bodies, and private individuals was also threatened. The Chief Justice (Sir Harold Barrowclough) said he was sure many others were concerned about the matter.. He thought the fact that the grand jury had referred to it was helpful, and he would see that a copy of its opinion was sent to the Minister of Justice.
