Purchased From U.K. Government

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON. July 1. The accusation by New Zealand’s Minister of Defence (Mr Connolly) that Britain sold the New Zealand Government 13 new Canberras with second-hand engines is featured by the “Daily Express.” Lord Caldecote, chairman of the English Electric Company, would make no comment. It is understood the company regards this as a matter for the Ministry of Aviation and the Rolls-Royce Company. The New Zealand Government bought the Canberras from the United Kingdom Government through the Ministry. The engines were not made by the E.E.C. and are reported to be the responsibility of the British Government.
