BUSINESS AT PEAK
Claim Made By Mr Connolly (New Zeaiana Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 1. Businessmen had told him they were experiencing their best period since the war, the Minister of Defence (Mr Connolly) said in the House of Representatives today. Mr Connolly was replying to Opposition criticism that business was being hampered by controls and restrictions. Mr W A. Hudson (Government, Mornington) said New Zealand was in a prosperous condition today and it was through the actions of the present Government. Supporting his contention, Mr Hudson said that at a conference at Hokitika the Governor of the Reserve Bank had said that, as the net result of various factors both at home and abroad. New Zealand was now nearer economic and financial equilibrium than at any time since the Second World War. “No greater compliment to the present Government could have been paid,” said Mr Hudson. Mr Hudson went on to make a plea for the projected veterinary college to be established in Dunedin. which he maintained had every facility for it Overseas opinion generally was with a veterinary school being sited near a medical school rather than an agricultural college.
