(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 15.

The number of registered unemployed rose from 644 at the end of April to 762 at the end of May, the Minister of Labour (Mr Hackett) said today. But. he said, this was much better than a year ago, when the number registered was 1541. The rise between April and May followed the norma) trend when seasonal work was tapering off Of the registered unemployed, 68i were men and 77 were women. Mr Hackett said the Government was keeping a close watch, and would not hesitate to take necessary steps to ensure there was work for all who wanted it.
