Food Technology Course (New Zealand Pres* Association) AUCKLAND, June 15. A new degree, bachelor of food technology, may be offered at Massey Agricultural College soon. The degree will replace the present degree of bachelor of agricultural science in dairy technology The suggestion for the degree was one of the recommendations passed by the Academic Board of the University of New Zealand for submission to the University Senate. The board met in Auckland on Tuesday and today. The chairman (Professor I. A. Gordon) said the new degree would be the first for technological training in New Zealand. It would include much of the former dairy technology course, but would be expanded to take in the whole field of food processing. The recommendation was for a four-year course. Another recommendation from the board was that Colombo Plan students who have completed all but two units of their courses, and have had to return to their countries as their term in New Zealand has expired, be allowed to complete their courses outside New Zealand.
The board has also recommended that students from Fiji who have passed three subjects in the University Entrance examination, but have not achieved entrance standard in English, be granted provisional entry to the university. However, they must enrol at the English Language Institute at Victoria University and obtain a ceri’ficate of proficiency in English before going on with their courses.
