It will have the power to co-opt technical experts on sub-commit-tees working toward the second bill, which will constitute the Auckla. d regional authority. This second bill is expected to go before Parliament next year. It will include statutory powers for the proposed authority to undertake any future works or functions of a metropolitan or regional nature of sufficient importance.

“It will eventually be concerned with the complete redevelopment of Auckland,” said the Mayor of Auckland (Mr D. M. Robinson), who is chairman of the regional council, today.

“It will be able to co-ordinate such metropolitan activities as hydatids and termite control, motorways, airports, heliports and possibly, traffic,” Mr Robinson said. "It could be the foundation for a board of works.

“It will certainly be the biggest move in Auckland local government for 50 years.”
