MOORINGS FOR YACHTS
Trial At Cass Bay
A proposal to make new yacht moorings in Diamond Harbour has been abandoned in favour of moorings in Cass Bay, the next bay to the westward from Corsair Bay, by the Lyttelton Harbour Board.
A proposal by the harbourmaster (Captain A. R. Champion) that six pile moorings be established at Cass Bay for a trial period was recommended for adoption by the works committee to the board yesterday. The board decided also that all owners of small craft to whom permits had been granted to use moorings be advised that the by-laws relating to the transfer of moorings will be strictly enforced in the future.
The by-laws prohibit the transfer of moorings or assignment of their possession without the consent of the board.
Yacht moorings in the inner harbour at Lyttelton have been long at a premium and sales of yachts and launches, with possession of moorings, have been made. The board made its decision in committee.
The waiting list for moorings is a long one. A number of vessels are moored at Diamond harbour. The launches and yachts have sustained damage and losses by casual visitors swimming out to them and the nor’-west surge has been troublesome.
The last public notification was that more moorings in Diamond Harbour were to be the subject of a report.
