U.N. STATISTICAL COMMISSION

New Zealand Delegate

Returns (Neto Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 1.

Representation by New Zealand at the United Nations Statistical Commission in New York, was not solely for the benefit of this country but also was a contribution to world statistics, said the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker) today. Mr Baker returned this week from the eleventh session of the commission. He said the 15-mem-ber commission discussed many aspects of statistical work, particularly in relation to national accounting methods, desirability of money flows in the economy, and input and output tables. Work on the difficult and Important problem of measurement of levels of living in various countries was thought of in terms of grouping, he said. A reason for this was that the range of climates affected the nature of requirements, such as calory intakes, housing, and clothing.
