Figures For May

There were fewer deaths, more births and more marriages last month than in the mmth of May last year, according to statistics from the registrar of births, deaths, and marriages (Mr W. S. Bainbridge). Although the figures for the month of May showed marked differences from the comparable figures in 1959, there was only one less birth, x arid 23 more deaths for the five months of 1960, compared with the first five months of 1959.

Figures for May, with May, 1959. figures in parenthesis, are:— Births, 499 (405); deaths, 194 (221); marriage notices, 146 (120); marriage by registrar, 29 (41). Figures for the first five months of the year, with comparable figures from last year in parenthesis, are:—Births, 2181 (2182); deaths. 863 (840); marriage notices, 887 (866); marriage by registrar, 147 (173).
