FIVE WINS IN A ROW
Ravelston In Top Form
After five successive wins, one in open class, Ravelston is regarded in the south as one of the stars of the season on the Otago and Southland racing circuit. Ravelston took his sequence to five at Invercargill on Saturday when he easily beat some good milers.
He did not get anything like a good run for a time, but spurted brilliantly when he found racing room and won at his leisure.
Ravelston, now aged four, is a half-brother by Kurdistan to St. Bruno, which won the New Zealand Derby, Dunedin Guineas, the Riverton Cup (twice) and other races.
St. Bruno was particularly good on soft and heavy tracks, but he was not easy to keep sound. Ravelston was the last foal from the Philamor mare Philaster, which was 26 years old when she died in 1958.
Philaster was bred by Mr W. A. White from the Hunting Song mare Helen Hunt. . Philaster’s first foal was Listen Irr, another successful performer and producer in Otago. Listen In left Lochlisten, by Balloch, a useful winner.
Five Trophies At Waimate
Owners of the winners of the Waimate Cup, the Studholme Steeples and the President’s Handicap will receive trophies from the Waimate Racing Club. There will also be special trophies for the trainer and jockey gaining most points at the meeting.
