Cricket UNIVERSITY MATCH

Canterbury Beats Lincoln Canterbury University beat Lincoln College by 116 runs on the first innings in the first match of the inter-university cricket tournament. This two-day match was completed at Lincoln College on Saturday, and Canterbury University will now meet Otago University this week. Canterbury batted first on a spongy wicket on the first day. After slow scoring in the morning, P. Morris showed strong shots to the on in his score of 104. Morris scored his last 70 runs in even time. M. Beban, the New Zealand colts.’ representative, drove strongly for his 96. The best of the Lincoln College bowlers was the Mid-Canterbury faster bowler, R. Millichamp. C. Devendra, a Malayan, bowled well-flighted off-spinners. The Lincoln innings showed little enterprise against bowling which was at times negative. The score of 180 runs was made in about 300 minutes. Only five boundaries were hit in this innings, with useful scores made by McLaughlan, R. Kenny and Williams. P. Park was the most impressive of the Canterbury fast bowlers, and B. Hopkins attacked the stumps well. Beban flighted the ball well. □Scores were:—
