Bowls FUNCTION AT LINWOOD

Presentation To S. J. Snedden At a function at the Linwood green on Saturday, S. J. Snedden was presented with his certificate for his win in the national singles championship at Dunedin earlier this year. Also, Saturday marked the closing day of the club for the season, and for the last time on its present property. The land has been sold, and the club will move next season to new greens in the City Council reserve just across the road. Work is well advanced on the new greens and the pavilion. The junior vice-president of the New Zealand Bowling Council (Mr W. R. Featherston) presented the certificate and pocket monogram to Snedden. He then presented the president of the club (Mr J. A. Scott) with a certificate for the club. Mr Featherston mentioned the number of successes Snedden had had, in both club and centre fixtures. He first won the colts title in his first two years as a bowler. Twenty-two years ago, only six years after beginning bowls, Snedden was the lead for H. Wilson’s four when it won the fours title, also at Dunedin. With Mr Featherston were two other members of the national council, Messrs J. T. Bisman and M. LeCren. The Christchurch Bowling Centre was represented by its president (Mr Turner Smith), who, after the presentation to Snedden, presented Mr Scott with the centre’s certificate for the club’s success in the Three Fours competition.
