Soviet’ Goods Criticised
(Rec. 10 p.m.) MOSCOW, January 25. Workers in a Moscow tool factory complained in a letter to “Izvestia” today that while Russia made highly successful rockets, it had “tastelessly and carelessly” made television sets, clothing and other consumer goods.
“We fly round the moon, but we make sideboards and other furniture of inferior quality, bulky radio sets, bad washing machines, vacuum cleaners and badly-made and inelegant clothing,” the letter said.
“We can do most difficult things quicker and better. The attitude here is that if some product is not meant for firing rockets, then don’t make it well." the letter said.
“Izvestia” promised to start a campaign for higher quality in various goods.
Never punish a dog by slapping it, warned a British animal research scientist; shake it gently instead.
