U.N. Mission To East Africa

NEW YORK, January 25.

The Soviet Union, critical of Belgian rule in Ruanda-Urundi, had strong backing in its bid for membership on a United Nations inspection team to visit the troubled East African trust territory, the American Associated Press reported today.

New Zealand is another candidate for membership. If the Soviet bid succeeded, the agency said, it would be the first time a Russian ever had served on the visiting missions that the United Nations Trusteeship Council sent periodically to report on conditions in trust territories in Africa
