71 M.P.H. Wind At Wellington

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 19.

North-westerly winds busting up to 71 miles an hour lashed Wellington today making conditions unpleasant, but causing little damage. The wind was strongest between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. when its speed averaged 35 m.p.h. The top 71 m.p.h. gust was at 1.20 p.m. The winds droped in the evening with temperatures still in the sixties.

Because of high winds, N.A.C operated three of its DC3 services through Paraparaumu instead of Wellington Airport. The services affected were to Auckland, Dunedin, and Wanganui.
