TREASON TRIAL IN PRETORIA

PRETORIA. January 18
The marathon South African treason trial entered its fourth year today after a two-month recess.
Thirty defendants, two of them white, before the special Court are facing charges of conspiracy to overthrow the State by violence. Outlining the procedure the prosecution would take, Mr J. J. Trengrove, for the Crown, said witnesses would give evidence of meetings attended and speeches made there by the accused.
The trial goes back to December, 1956, when 156 people were originally arrested.
