A.A.’s VIEWS ON HITCH-HIKING
Members Advised Not To Give Rides (Neu Leauina t'ress asauviulton' WELLINGTON, January 12. Hitch-hiking was this year less evident than over the past holiday seasons, but the habit was still persistent near cities and towns, the superintendent of the Traffic Control branch of the Transport Department (Mr J. C. C. Edwards) said today. The Wellington Automobile Association today advised its members to leave hitch-hikers standing for three reasons: “(1) Thumbing of rides had grown into a cheap, vulgar business of getting about at others’ expense. ••(2) The motorist who gave a stranger a lift might, in the event of accident, find himself in serious legal difficulties. “(3) The thumber might be bad company.”
