Obituary MR J. T. O’BRIEN
Mr J. T. O’Brien, a senior mechanical engineer with the Ministry of Works in Christchurch, died yesterday morning after a long illness. He was 49. Educated at the Marist Brothers School and the Christchurch Technical College, he attended the University of Canterbury where he studied engineering. He began his career with the Hailways Department in 1928. In 1935 he transferred to the Ministry of Works, and in 1955 he became a senior engineer. Mr O’Brien was president of the Villa Maria Parent Teacher Association, immediate past president of the Christchurch Competitions Society, a member of the Royal Society, and the Catholic Graduates’ Association. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
