DISPUTE WITH TEACHERS
College Board Members Resign
(New Zealand Press Association/ AUCKLAND, December 13. Four members of the Avoniale College board of managers resigned at a special meeting tailed for tonight. They were he chairman. Mr M. A. Kingdon. ind Mr H. D. Baldwin, who are parents’ representatives, and Messrs H. C. Bennett and J. H. Booth, the Governor-General’s representatives. The board met in committee :o consider problems affecting the board and members of the staff. As a result of the discussions, several teachers are to be asked to reconsider their resignations. At the conclusion of the meeting, the secretary and acting headmaster, Mr W. W. Stirling, issued the following statement: “The Avondale College board of managers has at a recent meeting, considered the general position and has consulted senior teachers. “The board considers that all difficulties have now been resolved and has carried resolutions covering the following points:— “1. It regrets past misunderstandings, but is of the opinion that it has acted cn the advice of the Education Department, except on one occasion. In this case, the board has acquiesced to the wishes of the department. “2. It has rescinded the motion regarding compulsory retiring age. “3. It has agreed to accept the guidance of the Education Department in the appointment of a principal of the college. “4. It has invited all teachers who had resigned to return to their duties and replacements will be announced in due course.”
